Diapering Your Baby

updated Noviembre 2023

Changing your baby’s diapers is a task you’ll do many times a day, so it’s important to have everything you need at hand and know how to do it in the best possible way.

Here, we’ll show you a list of products that will make this job easier and help you take care of your baby’s skin

Changing table

This is a table or piece of furniture specially designed for changing your baby’s diapers. It should be at the right height to prevent you from bending over too much and straining your back. It should also have space to store other necessary items and a surface that’s easy to clean.

Changing table pad

This is a mattress or pad placed on the changing table to make your baby more comfortable and protected.

The Keekaroo Peanut is a model with an ergonomic shape that conforms to the baby’s body and is made of a waterproof, non-slip, and antibacterial material. It doesn’t require a cover and can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

Changing table pad cover

This is a cover placed over the changing table pad to provide extra softness and warmth for the baby. Terry cloth is a cotton fabric with a fluffy and absorbent texture. It can be machine-washed and dries quickly.

Diaper Caddy

This is an organizer or basket that allows you to keep all the products you need for changing your baby’s diaper within easy reach.

You can place it on the changing table or carry it with you anywhere in the house.

It should have compartments or pockets for storing diapers, wipes, cream, scissors, etc.

Baby Disposable Pads

These are disposable pads placed under the baby when changing diapers to protect the changing table pad or the surface you’re using from potential stains or leaks.

They are very practical when you’re out or don’t have time to wash the changing table pad cover.

Newborn diapers 100 minimum

These are the diapers you’ll use for your newborn baby. You should have at least 100 units for the first few days because you’ll need to change them frequently.

Coterie and Honest Company are two brands that offer high-quality, soft, absorbent, and eco-friendly diapers.

They are made from natural and biodegradable materials and do not contain chemicals or perfumes that could irritate the baby’s skin.

Baby wipes

These are the wipes you’ll use to clean your baby’s bottom when changing diapers.

They should be gentle, hypoallergenic, and free of alcohol and fragrances. Water wipes are wipes that contain only water and a bit of grapefruit seed extract, which has antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

They are highly recommended for babies with sensitive skin or diaper dermatitis.

Wipe Warmer

This is a device that warms wipes to a comfortable temperature for the baby.

It prevents the thermal shock that cold wipes can cause and makes diaper changes more comfortable and pleasant for both the baby and the caregiver.

It has a system that maintains the moisture and hygiene of the wipes and prevents them from drying out or getting contaminated.

Diaper pail

This is a container where you deposit dirty diapers.

It has an airtight sealing system to prevent odors and bacteria from escaping. It also has sufficient capacity to store several diapers and an easy way to empty and clean it.

Diaper pail liners or trash bags

These are the bags used to line the diaper pail or to dispose of dirty diapers directly in the trash.

They should be strong, waterproof, and preferably biodegradable.

Some have a pleasant scent that neutralizes odors.

Soap at every sink

This is the soap you should have at every sink in your home to wash your hands before and after changing your baby’s diaper. It should be a mild, hypoallergenic soap without fragrances.

You can also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if you don’t have access to water and soap.

Diaper rash cream

This is the cream to apply on your baby’s bottom to prevent and treat irritations or rashes caused by the diaper. It should be a moisturizing, soothing, and protective cream that creates a barrier between the skin and the diaper.

Zoe organic, Diaper balm, and Burt’s Bees are three brands that offer natural, organic creams without chemicals or preservatives.

They contain ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, calendula, chamomile, or beeswax, which nourish, soften, and regenerate the baby’s skin.

Kendall Curity 0-B Sponges

These are sponges or gauze used to clean the umbilical cord of the newborn baby until the umbilical cord falls off.

They are sterile, soft, and absorbent gauze that is moistened with water or alcohol and placed around the umbilical cord with care.

They should be changed every time you change the diaper, and you should ensure that the umbilical cord is clean and dry.

2×2 gauze for circumcision Purpose Botanical Gelee in the tube

These are gauze and gel used to care for the penis of a newly circumcised baby.

The gauze is sterile, soft, and absorbent, placed on the penis with a layer of gel. The gel is a natural, organic product without chemicals, with healing, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties.

The gauze and gel should be changed every time you change the diaper, and you should ensure that the penis is clean and dry.
